Even though the single-family home that caught fire was across the street from the fire station, no one noticed the smoke.
A sad incident took place on Thursday evening in Eltendorf in the Jennersdorf district in southern Burgenland. Due to an unknown cause, a fire broke out in a single-family home. Although the house is located opposite the fire station, no one initially noticed the smoke because no one was home.
Pets fell victim to the fire
It was only when the family’s son arrived home around 5 p.m. that he discovered the fire and immediately alerted the emergency services. Within a very short time, six fire brigades were deployed to extinguish the fire. Police and Red Cross were also on site.
No one was injured. Unfortunately, two dogs and a cat that were in the house at the time of the fire were only rescued dead.
