The economy of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) grew by 1.8% in 2023 and employment by 1.7%, with 16,508 net jobs more, according to data published on Friday by the Basque Statistical Institute Eustat.
Growth was similar in the three historical areas: 1.9% in Araba and Gipuzkoa and two-tenths less, 1.7%, in Bizkaia.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the Gross national product (GDP) of the BAC as a whole has registered a growth of 1.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, the estimated growth is 0.5%.
Relative to employment opportunities (measured in full-time equivalents) a positive annual variation of 2.1% is estimated. This annual rate represents a growth of 0.5% compared to the third quarter of 2023. During 2023, the number of jobs increased by 1.7%, which represents 16,508 net jobs more than last year. The year-on-year development of employment was positive in all sectors, except for the primary sector, which showed a decline of 0.8%.
