Alpine accident Friday in the Tyrolean lowlands: A 29-year-old German lost her balance while climbing in Kössen (Kitzbühel district) and fell several meters into the rope. Her companion eventually managed to break the fall, but the woman suffered serious injuries.
On Friday morning, the two Germans, a man (37) and a 29-year-old woman from Rosenheim, went on a tour together in the climbing garden “Klobenstein” in Kössen. “When the climber reached the belay at the end of the ‘Strawberry Trail’ trip around noon and tried to insert the rope into the carabiner, she suddenly lost her balance,” police said.
Companion was able to break the fall
The 29-year-old then fell about four meters in the last intermediate belay before her rope partner could break the fall. “However, as she fell, the woman’s left foot hit a ledge. She suffered a broken ankle,” investigators continued.
The injured person received initial care on site and was then flown to the Rosenheim Clinic by emergency medical helicopter.
