On Tuesday evening, an 82-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency on a state road in Styria and crashed his car into a stone wall. The driver died on the spot. The 75-year-old woman traveling with him suffered undisclosed injuries in the accident.
Around 4:50 p.m., the 82-year-old from the Weiz district drove his vehicle down the valley on the L 320 from Teichalm (Weiz district). His 75-year-old wife was in the passenger seat. Suddenly, the 82-year-old suffered a medical emergency, lost control of his car and crashed his vehicle head-on into a stone wall on a bend.
Resuscitation fails
The following vehicle operators rescued the victims from the vehicle and immediately began resuscitation measures and care of the passenger. The first responders also started the rescue chain.
The emergency doctor could only determine that the 82-year-old was dead. The driver’s 75-year-old wife was taken to LKH Graz by the ÖRK with injuries of an undetermined nature.
The completely damaged vehicle was removed from the scene of the accident by a towing company. The L 320 was closed to all traffic from 4:50 PM to 5:50 PM.
The volunteer fire brigades Fladnitz an der Teichalm and St. Kathrein am Offenegg were deployed to the scene of the accident with a total of 15 men and 3 vehicles.
