The burden of women – “I have always put myself in the background”

Date:

They were in a relationship for 43 years and were married for 28 years when ‘Krone’ reader Monika* packed up her things, moved and filed for divorce. A few infidelities, little insight and many disappointments characterize the years of marriage. She has virtually no financial security. Today she says, “Why didn’t I leave him sooner?”

Nearly half of all marriages in Austria end in divorce. It is mainly women’s part-time work that puts pressure on women’s budgets in the event of a divorce. This is what happened to ‘Krone’ reader Monika, who now lives alone in a rented apartment in Vienna.

“I have already seen us in our guesthouse, which we spend together. But at a certain point I couldn’t forgive it anymore and I moved away. My pension is very low and I have no financial support due to the divorce. “Today I am standing in front of a pile of rubble,” said the 58-year-old.
