The mayor of Gerlos, Andreas Haas, and cable car boss Franz Hörl comment on the attack by football fans in front of their village railway line in Tyrol’s Zillertal. Both speak of a “horrific” or “frightening” incident that is an exception. According to the local boss, the case is still pending.
These are scenes that could have come straight from a film with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. But they are real. And instead of using chairs, two Dutch football fans in Gerlos hit ten compatriots with skis, ski poles and snowboards in front of the valley station of the Dorfbahn. The video we published was viewed thousands of times.
Victims did not respond to the invitation for questioning
As reported, a Dutchman and an uninvolved passerby were injured in the wild brawl on Thursday evening around 6 p.m. and taken to hospital. “The perpetrators have not been questioned anymore. You are accused of assault. “The victims have not yet accepted an invitation to be interviewed,” a police spokeswoman told the “Krone”.
“99 percent of the guests are quiet”
“I was in Vienna at the time and wasn’t there,” says cable car operator and National Council member Franz Hörl. “As far as I know, the two attackers, fans of Ajax Amsterdam, first celebrated elsewhere. They were wearing football uniforms and were asked to take them off by the other fans. They then disguised themselves and specifically carried out the attack.”
For the cable car worker, the fight was “horrendous and unjustifiable. You usually only see this in larger cities and in front of football stadiums. The fact that something like this is now brought to us in the Zillertal cannot be tolerated.” Finally, Hörl says that “even more safety could not have prevented this. “Fortunately, 99 percent of our holiday guests are peaceful.”
The local boss wants to work on the case with the police
“This incident is frightening,” says Mayor Andreas Haas. “Nothing like this has ever happened here with this intensity.” The local boss announces that he will work with the police on the case so that “we can see how the community can help ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. The willingness of some people to use violence is nothing short of shocking.”
