Due to the unfavorable weather conditions, three climbers had to make an emergency call on Saturday afternoon. The Alpine Police, 17 mountain rescuers and a police helicopter were deployed to bring the seriously weakened and hypothermic people to safety.
Three Hungarian citizens, two women (55 and 23) and one man (24), dared to go on a mountain hike in the Rax area on Saturday. They left around noon and reached the Karl-Ludwig-Haus at 2:15 p.m. At this point fog and wind were already building.
The group decided to descend further. Then they took a wrong turn and found themselves in rugged and rolling terrain.
Severely weakened and hypothermic
They finally called 911 at 4 p.m. The police helicopter was used. But due to the bad weather, an air rescue was not possible. An Alpine police officer and about 17 mountain rescue workers then set out to get the three Hungarians safely off the mountain.
When the mountain rescuers met the three people, they were already seriously weakened and hypothermic. They were given first aid and the group, accompanied by the rescuers, descended into the valley. All people were unharmed.
