Focus on personnel – After years of cuts, the armed forces are on the rise

Date:

The ‘Mission Forward’ gives military personnel a significant advantage in the military. More pay, prestige and awards keep the troops happy – women are storming the career ladder too!

The days of ailing or even ‘decrepit’ armed forces will soon be over in this country. Thanks to a strong financial injection and the declared ‘Mission Forward’, the domestic army is once again positioning itself as a very interesting employer. Compared to the previous year, there are very encouraging trends in human resources for 2023. For example, the premature, unplanned departure of soldiers has decreased significantly, by 28 percent compared to pre-coronavirus levels.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) is extremely satisfied: “In addition to purchasing, the biggest challenge for our department in the coming years will be personnel. This affects both professional soldiers and civilian personnel, but especially the militia.” But the generals are clear that they are not in a sprint, but at the start of a marathon. In addition to the current salary increase for all employees of up to 9.71%, performance-related rewards and awards are intended to strengthen the incentive.

Women make important contributions to military fitness
By the way, in Denmark they say ‘women’s power’ more. After Sweden and Norway, the third Scandinavian country will introduce compulsory military service for women from 2026. However, the voluntary factor is still relied upon in this country: since April 1, 2023, women in Austria have had the opportunity to perform basic military service on their own initiative. Within twelve months, 234 women have already registered and 136 have already registered. Trend: strongly increasing!
