Al-Qassam commander – US: Hamas number three killed by Israel

Date:

The number three leader of the Palestinian terror organization Hamas, Marwan Issa, has been killed in an Israeli military operation, according to the US government. Issa was killed last week, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Monday in Washington.

Issa was a member of Hamas’ inner leadership circle. The Gaza-born deputy commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, is said to be hiding in one of the infamous tunnels.

Second Hamas commander already eliminated
This is the second Hamas commander to be “eliminated” by Israel in a short period of time. A few days ago, Muhammad Abu Hasna was killed in Rafah.

He was responsible for an operations center that relayed information about Israeli army positions to assist with Hamas attacks. His targeted killing would significantly damage the operational capabilities of several Hamas units in Rafah, the Israeli military said in a statement.

Biden and Netanyahu are talking again
Meanwhile, the ‘ice age’ between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is over; the two spoke again on the phone on Monday after a long break in conversations. The exchange discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip city of Rafah and humanitarian assistance for locals, the White House said. Biden and Netanyahu last spoke on the phone in mid-February.

The US government plans to personally speak to a high-level delegation from Israel in the coming days about concerns over the planned ground offensive in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip. National security adviser Jake Sullivan said Biden had asked Netanyahu to send a team of military, intelligence and humanitarian aid specialists to Washington in the coming days. The aim is to explain in detail the US government’s concerns and discuss possible alternatives. Netanyahu has agreed to send such a team.
