Oppressive cases: pregnant women tormented? She doesn’t want to burden him

Date:

Sad week at the Innsbruck Regional Court: Several trials are scheduled over the alleged abuse of partners and a woman. Bad things are said to have happened to a pregnant woman.

Violence in relationships – this week’s hearings at the Innsbruck Regional Court testify to the extent of this problem.

On Tuesday, a 33-year-old stood before the judge who, according to the Public Prosecution Service, did not shy away from abuse, even when his partner was pregnant. He once pushed and kicked her against a door after the fall. He allegedly threatened to kill her and her child. “She only had bruises because of consensual sex,” the man claimed during the trial for persistent violence.

Partner can refuse to testify
The problem: the woman had reported him, but then, as her partner, refused to testify. It was currently unclear whether the relationship was still good. The judge wants to invite the victim again. If the relationship ended, she would be required to testify. That’s why it was postponed until April.

Two more serious cases from the lowlands
On Monday, an Unterländer (27) was in court because he had punched his partner, causing a perforated eardrum. He also threatened to ‘knock her teeth out’ and that she would be found ‘bloody in the woods tomorrow’. Trial postponed.

On Friday, a case from the Unterland (which has now been clarified) was on the agenda: a 55-year-old allegedly punched and kicked his wife so violently that two ribs broke and she suffered a bruised skull. .
