The management of Mercedes has proposed to the works council an investment of 1.2 billion euros in the Vitoria-Gasteiz factorywhich would mean doubling the current capacity of the factory facilities, as union sources have confirmed to the EFE news agency.

This proposal was presented verbally by the management to the union representatives on Thursday during a meeting they held as part of the negotiations between the two sides on a new agreement.

Union sources have declined to provide more details about management’s proposal, which they will now study at the same time they continue to negotiate the terms of employment of the staffwhich currently employs about 5,000 workers, making this factory the largest in the Basque Country.

In mid-March, the strategic manager of Vans de Mercedes, Ingo Ettischer, informed the social representation of the importance of reach agreement in the agreement in light of the multinational’s decision on which factory will produce the electric models.
