Nehammer supports the admission of Bosnia
Austria, represented in Brussels by Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), is one of the strongest supporters of faster EU integration for Bosnia. However, some EU countries had previously expressed concerns that the country had not yet implemented all the required reforms.
The accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova must also be brought forward.
Scholz: Use interest income from Russian assets in Europe to buy weapons
A debate broke out at the summit over the issue of the use of frozen Russian assets. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) spoke out in favor of using the interest from these assets to buy weapons and ammunition for the defense of Ukraine. Nehammer was skeptical about this. He emphasized that neutral parties must ensure that this is not the case. He considers the original proposal to use the money for reconstruction sensible. The Chancellor also calls on the EU to clearly condemn the rape of Israeli women by Hamas fighters.
