Fatal accident on the A1 in the Melk district (Lower Austria) on Friday evening: a truck may have collided with a special transport vehicle between Melk and Pöchlarn. The crash killed one person and injured two others. The highway had to be closed towards Salzburg.
Sonja Kellner, spokeswoman for the Lower Austrian Red Cross, confirmed the terrible accident on the western highway on Friday morning. According to Kellner, three trucks were involved in the traffic accident. One of the two injured was taken to a hospital, the second was treated at the scene.

Four rescue vehicles and an ambulance were called by the Red Cross. The district manager was also present. “Christophorus 2” was also requested, but was ultimately not used.
The closure of the A1 in the affected area is expected to last until 9 a.m., the ORF reports. A signposted diversion route has been set up. The early morning traffic was backed up for miles.
