Massacre in Moscow – US warned of attack – Putin dismissed

Date:

Gunmen killed at least 40 people in an attack on an event hall in the Moscow region on Friday, according to Russia’s domestic intelligence service FSB. The US embassy in Moscow recently warned of impending attacks.

Speculation about a possible terrorist attack in Moscow has been circulating since March 7. At the time, the American embassy issued a warning about this, which was also taken over by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 8.

Two IS terrorist cells were established – will there be revenge now?
The background was the establishment of two terrorist cells of the so-called Islamic State, in which several people were said to have been killed, according to “NZZ”. The cells are said to have planned attacks on synagogues in Moscow.

Putin: “Open blackmail”
However, Russian leader Vladimir Putin dismissed the warnings as “open blackmail” intended to “intimidate and divide society.” He also strongly denounced the “provocative statements of some official Western structures” about a possible terrorist attack in Russia. “All this is reminiscent of open blackmail and the intention to spread fear and destabilize our society,” he explained to the top of the FSB, the domestic secret service responsible for combating terrorism.

In 2002, Chechen gunmen took control of 850 people in a musical theater. On the fourth day of the drama, the domestic secret service stunned the kidnappers and hostages with a gas. The terrorists were shot. 135 hostages died, most due to inadequate medical care.
