The closure in the center of Linz is already safe due to the risk of explosion

Date:

This immediately brings back memories of the terrible explosion in a residential area in Ansfelden last summer. This time the gas leak was discovered on time. Emergency services have cordoned off a large part of the affected area in the center of Linz, right next to the Elisabethinen Hospital.

“We cordoned off a lot to prevent people walking by with a cigarette, for example” – because that could possibly have led to an explosion, reports Markus Reitbauer, head of operations at the Linz professional fire brigade. The Florianis were on duty at Fadingerstrasse on Tuesday afternoon because a gas leak had been discovered there. Gas leaked in the basement of a building, probably due to a defective natural gas line.

The leak was discovered in time and Linz AG was able to repair it. The fire brigade carried out ventilation measures in the affected building, which did not need to be evacuated. No one was injured.

Hospital entrance kept clear
However, closing Fadingerstrasse was a challenge for the emergency services because the Elisabethinen Hospital, which was also admitted on Tuesday, is in the immediate vicinity of the gas leak. “But we made sure there was access to the hospital. We have achieved this well in consultation with the police,” says operational manager Reitbauer.

The barrier was in place for about two hours. In total, the operation took several hours.
