As if the incident wasn’t bad enough, an incredible detail is now coming to light about the massive apartment building fire in Solingen, Germany, that killed four people: it was deliberate arson! A preliminary report documents clear remains of an accelerator.
The Wuppertal public prosecutor announced this on Wednesday. A father, mother and two children from a Bulgarian family died in the fire on Monday morning. Another nine people were taken to hospitals with injuries of varying severity.
The family had no chance
According to the information, the fire started in the stairwell of the old building. Due to a so-called chimney effect, the fire spread to the roof within five minutes. “Clear remains of an accelerator” were found in the wooden stairs. Based on this finding, ‘intentional arson’ must be assumed.
When the fire brigade arrived, the wooden stairs were already completely ablaze and the escape route was blocked. Several residents jumped out of the window in panic. The fire brigade deployed no fewer than 120 emergency services.
Expert opinion ‘clear’
Fire experts inspected the house, which had become uninhabitable, on Tuesday to clarify the cause of the fire. The experts’ initial assessment was “clear”, according to the public prosecutor.
