The fire brigade on the French Atlantic coast is fighting several forest fires south of the city of Bordeaux. The prefecture in Bordeaux announced on Tuesday evening that 120 firefighters and four firefighting planes were in action. Firefighters from other departments were also mobilized. 450 hectares of nature reserve in the area of Landiras and Teste-de-Buch have already been robbed by the flames.
The fires are favored by ongoing drought and a heat wave. Temperatures of 37 degrees are expected in the region on Wednesday.
The smoke column from the fires can even be seen in Bordeaux, France Info reports. Several neighborhoods had to be evacuated accordingly. The French weather service has issued a heat warning
