A crane truck fell over the highway bridge at the Villach-West junction. The vehicle caught fire. The place is difficult to reach and picking up the steering wheel was difficult.
The spectacular accident took place on Thursday morning on the Tauernautobahn near Villach-West, requiring a large contingent of emergency services. On Salzburgerstraße, a crane truck from a recovery company veers off the right of the road, breaks through the railing and falls over the bridge.
The vehicle catches fire. Firefighting and recovery operations are difficult on steep terrain. There were also fears that the truck could slide further down towards the B100.
“The driver has now been rescued and handed over to the rescue service,” says Harald Geissler, the commander of the Villach main fire station, who is on duty together with numerous colleagues in other laboratories. “Hundreds of liters of hydraulic oil burned.”
