Later on Wednesday afternoon, the St. Michael im Lungau fire brigade was alerted when a technical defect in the engine compartment of a vehicle led to a fire. Thanks to the courageous efforts of passers-by who had a fire extinguisher at hand, the fire was under control before the fire brigade arrived.
The fire brigade carried out follow-up work and checked the area with a thermal imaging camera to ensure no embers remained. A total of two vehicles and 13 people from the St. Michael Fire Department were present. Local police assisted with a vehicle and two officers, while the Red Cross was on site with a vehicle and two ambulance personnel.
Fortunately, no one was injured and the operation was completed successfully at 6 p.m. The exact cause of the technical defect is currently being investigated by the authorities.
