Upper limit fixed – Slovenia will impose a ceiling on electricity prices from September

Date:

In order to take action against the inflation crisis, Slovenia will limit electricity prices. The government imposed an annual ceiling on electricity prices for households and small businesses on Thursday. The price regulation applies this year from the beginning of September to the end of August 2023.

For the average household customer, the annual electricity bill drops by 15 to 30 percent, depending on how expensive their provider is. The costs of the most expensive providers will fall by as much as 60 percent, Infrastructure Minister Bojan Kumer said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting.

This means annual savings of 110 to 330 euros or up to 1000 euros.

Green electricity tax is halved
The government has capped the electricity price at EUR 0.118 per kilowatt hour for high rates and EUR 0.82 per kilowatt hour for low rates or EUR 0.098 for a uniform rate. In addition, the consumption tax, which has already been reduced by 50 percent, has been maintained and the green electricity tax will be halved as of 1 September.

The ceiling for electricity prices has been agreed in consultation with the domestic electricity sector. Slovenia is fortunate that the entire chain from power generation to distribution is in the hands of the state, he said. The Slovenian government plans to take measures against high gas prices in the coming weeks.
