More than 25 degrees possible – The Easter weekend could bring the first day of summer

Date:

The Easter weekend will not only be very spring-like, but could also bring the first day of summer of the year. As Geosphere Austria predicted on Thursday, at least 25 degrees will be measured in isolated cases on Saturday. Such summer days in March are rare and last occurred in 2021, 2017, 2016, 2006 and 2004, among others. Normally this only happens in mid-April; the earliest summer day was on March 18, 2004 with 25.3 degrees in Pottschach.

At individual weather stations… Saturday also include the warmest March day of the relevant series of measurements. However, March’s record across Austria would not be achieved. It is 27.5 degrees, measured on March 23, 1977 in Gumpoldskirchen (Lower Austria).

Ben Freitag In the southwest the sky is still mainly cloudy and some rain can be expected from time to time. The rest of Austria is dominated by fairly sunny weather, although some high clouds pass through. The wind is weak to moderate, strong to strong in the mountains and on the eastern edge of the Alps, from the east to southwest. In the morning temperatures vary from minus three to plus six degrees, in the afternoon from 16 to 24 degrees, in the southwest it remains cooler with eleven to 15 degrees.

The southwest offers Saturday often cloudy weather with a little rain. Otherwise, sun and cloud alternate, with most sunshine in the northern parts of the country. The wind blows weak to moderate, also strong in the south and southeast, stormier along the north side of the Alps and generally on the mountains, from the east to southwest. Early temperatures are between two and 13 degrees, afternoon temperatures can rise to 26 degrees, in the southwest it is cooler with values between 15 and 19 degrees.

Also on Easter Sunday the southerly current remains constant. This means that south of the main Alpine ridge, especially in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia, there will be thick clouds with rain, even in the high mountain areas. Everywhere else it is sunny and exceptionally warm. In the foehn areas on the north side of the Alps and on the eastern edge of the Alps, the wind blows from the south to southwest. Isolated showers in the far north are not excluded in the afternoon. Early temperatures four to 14 degrees, daily highs usually 18 to 24 degrees, sometimes lower in southern locations.

Ben Easter Monday In the north and east, but also in the west thanks to the southern foehn, the sun usually shines again with accumulated precipitation south of the main Alpine ridge. During the course of the day, another cold front will move in from the west, the foehn will collapse and the wind will turn to the west. With the onset of precipitation on the north side of the Alps, the snow line also drops below 2,000 meters. By the evening the disturbance will also reach the east. Early temperatures nine to 14 degrees, afternoon temperatures from west to east ten to 24 degrees.

After the disturbance passes, the eastern Alpine region reaches the Tuesday in a significantly cooler westerly flow. Sunny periods alternate with dense clouds and sometimes heavy rain showers. In the far east, showers are rarer. A strong westerly wind blows along the north side of the Alps and in the northeast. Early temperatures two to eight degrees, maximum temperatures ten to 18 degrees.
