Geosphere Austria has issued a storm warning for North Tyrol for the Easter weekend, from Saturday morning to Monday morning – specifically the warning level “orange” (the third of four levels). Stormy gusts and wind peaks of 60 to 80 km/h are expected, and sometimes even more in the mountains.
In the typical Föhn valleys, speeds would be around 100 km/h, a state statement said on Friday. It will be even stormier in the mountains: hurricane-like wind gusts of more than 120 km/h were predicted here. East Tyroleans can spend Easter with less worry when it comes to wind: the storm warning did not apply to this part of the country.
Peak on Monday evening
According to GeoSphere Austria, the storm’s peak is expected to reach Monday evening. Those responsible called for forests, parks and avenues to be avoided. Particular caution is required due to the risk of forest fires during Easter fires.
