Cackling accident Friday morning between Lacken and Feldkirchen in Upper Austria: a truck trailer carrying thousands of chickens overturned in a bend. The truck had loaded a total of 9,000 animals. The fire brigade was able to pick up some of them by hand and save them.
It is still unclear how the accident could have happened. The truck’s trailer overturned on a bend in Mühllacknerstrasse on Friday morning and ended up half in the ditch. The trailer had loaded about half of the 9,000 chickens that had been transported by truck.
Florianis caught chickens
“Fortunately, we are a large team, we carefully captured some chickens and stored them in boxes,” reports Thomas Barth, operations manager of the Lacken volunteer fire brigade, to the “Krone”.
However, the majority of the poultry remained locked in the transport crates in the overturned trailer. It is still unclear how many of the animals survived the accident.
Trailer is set up
“We are working on getting the trailer upright,” says Barth about the ongoing operation. Most animal boxes remain in the trailer, others are transferred to a new truck.
The FF Lacken took action with three cars and about twenty Florianis. A towing company was called in to set up the trailer.
