A man from Villach received praise from the firefighters: the attentive and courageous man reacted quickly and was able to prevent something worse with hand fire extinguishers.
Several callers reported a balcony fire in the Auen district of Villach on Good Friday around 4 p.m. on the emergency number 122. The emergency services from the main fire station and the FF Perau noticed smoke on the ground floor balcony of an apartment building on site.
“A neighbor has already extinguished the flames with several hand fire extinguishers to prevent the fire from spreading,” said Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of Villach’s main fire station.
Ash vacuum cleaner may be responsible
The FF Perau carried out the extinguishing work using respiratory protection and a high-pressure extinguishing line. The thermal imaging camera was used to locate any further hotspots. The facade, which was damaged by the fire, had to be opened because the thermal insulation all too often catches fire. The apartment was not affected by the fire.
No one was injured. The fire was probably caused by an ash vacuum cleaner on the balcony.
The extent of the damage has not yet been quantified.
