With the Hochficht, another ski area in Upper Austria now had to close temporarily, as an alternative, the thermal baths are currently very popular. And the meteorologists are sure: a longer winter phase is not yet in sight.
“The average temperature for a ‘normal’ January in Upper Austria is zero degrees. But we are miles away from that this year. During the long weekend, temperatures between three and twelve degrees are expected,” says ZAMG meteorologist Josef Haslhofer. While there will be some fog and little sun in the central area and in the Innviertel, the sun will shine all the longer in the Salzkammergut and in the region Pyhrn-Priel.
Still much too mild
“So it is still clearly too soft and there is largely no precipitation at the weekend. There are no signs of a longer winter phase in the coming week either,” says the weather expert. This also has consequences for skiing: the ski areas Sternstein, Kirchschlag, Hansberg and Hochficht now had to close due to the weather. There was no operation on the Kasberg on Thursday due to strong winds.
Therme as a welcome alternative
It is no wonder that many compatriots are looking for an alternative in the snow: Many switch to a thermal bath. “We are always well attended during the Christmas holidays. Our big advantage is that we are independent of the weather. Of course, that plays into our hands at the moment,” says Patrick Hochhauser, director of the Eurothermen, who is happy about one or the other guest who doesn’t feel like skiing at the moment.
