Two men have died in an accident while base jumping in the mountains of northern Italy. The 33-year-old Briton crashed into the rock on Monte Brento on Friday. The body of a 35-year-old Australian who jumped off Monte Cimone in his wingsuit on Thursday was found on Friday.
The Briton crashed into the rock at Drava because he couldn’t move in the air with his wingsuit. Other base jumpers also attended the “Happy Birthday” starting point in the morning, which is popular with extreme athletes. Jumping is not prohibited there, police said.
In the northeastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the mountain rescue team of Guardia di Finanza found the body of an Australian on Friday. The 35-year-old also jumped from Monte Cimone wearing a wingsuit on Thursday and then went missing, a police officer in Neveasattel (Sella Nevea) said Friday. The cause of the crash was not immediately known. The tip on Monte Cimone is popular with base jumpers.
