Miraculously, a Styrian woman (33) survived a serious accident on Easter Sunday in Hengsberg: she left the road and collided with a bridge railing that protruded through her car. The car overturned and caught fire. A neighbor turned out to be the hero of the story.
The 33-year-old woman from Styria was on her way to Preding when the dramatic accident happened on the L601 in the municipality of Hengsberg. Directly at the inn “Bacherlwirt” the driver drove off the right side of the road – according to her own statements, she was drunk and fell into a microsleep. She crashed head-on into the bridge railing – it was torn from its anchorage and pierced by the car. But that was not enough: the vehicle and the railing were thrown into the stream under the bridge.
A local resident as an Easter hero
The Easter miracle in the story came about through a neighbor. He heard a loud bang and immediately rushed to help. Smoke was already rising from the engine compartment, but he didn’t hesitate for a moment and pulled the woman who had been in an accident out of the car. Seconds later the car caught fire.
Serious but not life-threatening injuries
He brought the driver to safety and discovered that she had suffered serious injuries to her upper body and head. A Predinger first responder rushed over and treated the woman. She responded quickly and, miraculously, her injuries were not life-threatening. A little later the emergency doctor arrived and she was taken to the Wagna LKH.
The Preding volunteer fire brigade then extinguished the burning car, while the Schönberg volunteer fire brigade set up an oil barrier in the stream. The L601 was closed to all traffic after the accident. In total, almost 40 emergency services were on site. All helpers are now hoping that the 33-year-old will get better soon – it was a true Easter miracle that she survived.
