At least six people died in a bomb attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capitalDamascus, attributed to Israel by authorities, according to a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The London-based organization has indicated that “Israeli missiles have destroyed a building adjacent to the Iranian embassy” in Damascus. Senior Iranian officials were among those killed at the diplomatic headquarters, according to the Observatory. One of them would be the commander-in-chief of the army Iranian Revolutionary GuardMohammed Reza Zahedi
The Syrian-Iranian news agency SANA also attributes the bombing to Israel. The attack caused extensive damage.
Iran’s ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, and his family escaped the attack unscathed.
The Observatory also reported that on Sunday at least four Israeli projectiles struck a scientific research area in Yamraya, Damascus, causing a fire.
Israeli attacks in Syria
have been settled 30 Israeli attacks on Syrian territory So far this year, 22 air strikes and eight ground attacks, mainly against ammunition and weapons depots, vehicles and official headquarters.
According to the NGO’s balance sheet, 115 fighters were killed and 47 injured in these attacks. In addition, 19 were killed from the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, 13 from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, 12 Iraqis, 23 from pro-Iranian militias and Syrian nationality, 10 from pro-Iranian militias and non-Syrian nationality, and 38 members of the Syrian security forces.
