A drunkard pulled up on a train from Zurich to Salzburg on Thursday evening to find a suspected firearm and put it on display. Three passengers from Switzerland felt threatened and informed the train conductor, who alerted the police.
The 55-year-old suspect from Bosnia was removed from the train at Salzburg Central Station by police officers. He had an airsoft pistol with him. No one was injured. The man has been temporarily detained.
Due to the police operation, a platform in Salzburg was closed for security reasons because the people on the train were unable to judge whether the weapon was real and what it was.
Police say the Bosnian was heavily intoxicated. He told the officers that he just wanted to show the gun to someone. He was eventually released on the orders of the prosecutor. A temporary firearms ban has been imposed on the 55-year-old, who lives in Vienna.
