KV dispute continues – AUA cancels 92 flights on Thursday

Date:

Just last week, a total of 400 AUA flights were canceled on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday and 50,000 passengers did not reach their destinations as planned. Now passengers have to stay on the ground again on Thursday – because of KV disputes.

The AUA staff is planning a work meeting for next Thursday, April 4, from 9 a.m. That is why 92 flights will be canceled on this day, as has now been announced. Last week, 400 flights fell victim to an AUA strike during the Easter holidays. Many passengers were unable to take off.

8,000 passengers affected
The approximately 8,000 affected passengers have already been informed and rebooked, the airline said in a statement on Tuesday. Originally, 325 flights were scheduled for Thursday.

According to the information, 80 flights can be carried out during the working meeting. Long-haul flights will also continue as planned. However, adjustments to the flight plan at short notice are still possible. “Passengers are therefore asked to check their flight status in a timely manner on the austrian.com website, the Austrian app or via Travel ID (with registration),” the statement continued.

Fronts paved
The background to the company meetings and the renewed flight cancellations is the stalled collective labor agreement negotiations and the subsequent strikes. The union calls for the pay level of AUA employees to be adjusted to that of the Lufthansa Group. However, the company has so far shown no willingness to comply.

The fronts between AUA management and the union have noticeably hardened recently: AUA boss Annette Mann suggested that the Lufthansa Group could serve Vienna with cheaper airlines in the future if the workforce did not scale back their demands. The Vida union was “irritated” by the “threats from the German side”.

Millions in damages as a result of disputes
During the upcoming works meeting, the AUA works council will discuss how to proceed with the workforce. Vida boss Roman Hebenstreit recently did not rule out further strikes. It is unlikely that a new negotiation will take place until next week. “Until then, discussions will take place at different levels,” an AUA spokeswoman said. The airline estimated the financial damage caused by the KV dispute so far on Tuesday at 24 million euros.
