A 114-year-old man, who as of 2022 was considered the world’s oldest man, has died in Venezuela. “Juan Vicente Pérez Mora has entered eternity at the age of 114,” Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro said on the online service X on Tuesday (local time).
The Guinness Book of Records officially confirmed Pérez as the oldest man on Earth on February 4, 2022. The Venezuelan was then 112 years and 253 days old.
Pérez was already helping with farming at the age of five
Pérez leaves behind an extensive posterity. The father of 11 children had a total of 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, according to 2022 data. The farmer known as Tio Vicente was born on May 27, 1909 in El Cobre in the Andean state of Táchira, the ninth of ten children. According to data from the Guinness Book, at the age of five he started helping his father and brothers in agriculture, for example with the sugar cane and coffee harvest.
