One of the suspected terrorists arrested after the devastating attack at Crocus City Hall near Moscow – Chechen Ashab Uspanov – was so severely tortured in Russian custody that he died. To cover this up, the police allegedly tried to stage his “suicide”.
On the same evening that the attack was carried out, Uspanov was on his way home after work and was waiting for his bus at the stop when he was suddenly attacked by masked men, reports the Telegram channel “1ADAT”. Not understanding what was going on, he defended himself. It later turned out that they were police officers.
As a result, Uspanov was arrested on suspicion of terrorism and held at the police station. According to the information, he was tortured there with extreme severity: his ribs and spine were broken. The injuries were so serious that the man died. His body was marked with bruises and signs of asphyxiation. An off-screen voice describes that the police officers tried to stage his suicide.

Since the terrorist attack on Crocus town hall, Russian police have arrested eleven people. Their interrogations are described as brutal and there is said to have been a lot of torture. For example, the ear was cut off during the arrest of a terrorist suspect. If that wasn’t enough, the police forced him to eat it.
The US named Crocus City Hall as a possible terrorist target
It has now emerged that US security authorities, according to a newspaper report, had directly warned the Russian side of a possible terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Moscow. The Washington Post newspaper cited anonymous sources within the US government in its report on Tuesday (local time in the US). The American secret services were very certain that the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) was planning an attack on this location.
The warning became public on March 7, when the US embassy and then other Western missions in Moscow urged their citizens to avoid large public events in the coming days. A few days before the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the warning as a Western provocation. After the attack, the US National Security Council reiterated that Moscow had been informed through internal channels. However, these statements did not go into enough detail to even mention the specific location, Crocus City Hall.
The Washington Post report contradicts information from Russia’s foreign intelligence service SWR in Moscow on Tuesday. SWR boss Sergei Naryschkin confirmed that Russia’s domestic secret service FSB had been warned by the US. “But our Russian colleagues say that the information was too general and did not allow us to find the people involved in this terrible crime,” Naryshkin told the Interfax news agency.
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack
Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack in several letters. Western security authorities and experts consider these reports credible. They believe the attack was carried out by the IS offshoot of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISPK). However, Russian leaders are trying to portray Ukraine as the real mastermind. Putin told a meeting at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday that all beneficiaries of this crime should be investigated. At the same time, he announced that the actions of security authorities and other agencies during the attack should be investigated.
