A mountain drama took place on Saturday at the highest peak in Austria. A couple (33 and 36) got into trouble while climbing the mountain. The woman could go no further. Her friend wanted to get help, but it was too late.
Around 6:45 am on Saturday, the 36-year-old and his girlfriend (33) – both Austrians – started their demanding tour from Kals well rested. The couple wanted to climb to the top via the Stüdlgrat and then return via the Adlersruhe.
The couple has reached their limits
However, the increase was slow. The couple had technical problems and reached their physical limits. It was dark by now, but the mountain climbers continued their journey. However, around midnight it was no longer possible to move forward. The woman was too exhausted. She could no longer climb 50 meters below the top.
According to the police, her companion then left for Adlersruhe alone to make an emergency call. The Kals mountain rescue service was alerted, as was the Lienzer Alpine police. The emergency services left that night.
The helicopter could not take off
It was hoped that a helicopter could be launched at dawn. But the wind was too strong. The helicopter had to remain on the ground. Shortly after 10 a.m., mountain rescuers finally reached the mountaineer after a demanding climb. She lay lifeless where her companion had left her. The woman was dead. Emergency services brought the body to the valley. According to the Sprengel doctor, the cause of death was probably ice cold.
