A terrible accident in Mittenwald, Bavaria, near the border with Tyrol, claimed one life on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was a 72-year-old woman from Tyrol. Three others were injured in the head-on collision.
The tragedy happened on Wednesday shortly after 4 p.m. in Mittenwald at Bundesstraße 2. There, a 72-year-old Tyrolean woman collided head-on with her car into an oncoming vehicle driven by a 40-year-old German woman for unknown reasons.
The woman died at the scene of the accident
According to police, both vehicles were thrown to the side of the road and came to a stop. Unfortunately, all help for the Tyrolean woman came too late. She died at the scene of the accident. Two other occupants of the woman, a 97-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, were seriously injured and flown to hospitals by rescue helicopter. The 40-year-old driver of the other vehicle was also seriously injured and taken to the clinic.
An hour-long closure
The road at the accident site had to be completely closed for hours. The police started an investigation. Six police patrols, the Mittenwald fire brigade and numerous rescue workers were deployed.
