The Florianijüngers were faced with an unusual task on Thursday in the Bregenzerwald municipality of Egg in Vorarlberg: a cow weighing several hundred kilos had fallen into a manure gutter.
Shortly after 11:00, the fire brigade received a message that a cow had fallen into a cesspit in the loose housing on a farm in Egg; a wooden floorboard had apparently not been able to withstand the weight. Fortunately, the emergency services knew what to do: two Florianis climbed into the manure pit wearing breathing apparatus and protective suits and rushed to the animal’s aid. While they put a special harness on the animal for crane rescue, their colleagues blew fresh air into the dark “dungeon”.
Animal unharmed
Eventually the cow was put out of her misery. Apart from a few scratches on her belly, the animal was unharmed. After that, a good shower was taken. The firefighters probably treated themselves to one too.
