There is now news in the case of the 12-year-old who was allegedly raped several times by a group of teenagers between February and June 2023. Eight of the eighteen suspects were already known to the Vienna child and youth care system before the crime, but not because of sexual assault.
“We know eight of the seventeen suspects,” said MA 11 spokeswoman Ingrid Pöschmann in an online article in the daily newspaper “Kurier”.
One suspect is being investigated on suspicion of rape of 12-year-old Anna-Sofia, while the others are suspected of sexual abuse of a minor. The suspects include thirteen underage boys between the ages of 14 and 18 and a young adult aged 19. Two suspects are not yet 14 years old. A perpetrator is still unknown.

However, according to the “Kurier”, MA 11 is not aware of any history of sexual assault against any of the suspects. Two of the boys were noticed for violent behavior, and parents of other children reported the incident. A major challenge for many is inflation and its consequences,” said Pöschmann.
In some families there were also reports of danger – due to neglect and psychological and physical violence towards the children. “In cases where child protection could not be guaranteed, we intervened,” Pöschmann emphasized. “Risk assessments are now taking place. “The question is: what do young people need to change their behavior,” says the spokeswoman for MA 11.
