A 26-year-old driver lost control of his friend’s car in the Landstrasse district of Vienna on Friday evening. The car crashed into a railing. The driver died a short time later in hospital and his 28-year-old passenger was seriously injured. Explosive: The owner of the car had recently left the car due to the driver’s driving style.
The 26-year-old Serb drove from Kelsengasse towards Landstraßer Hauptstraße around 1:15 am. At Wildgansplatz he lost control of his car and crashed into the railing of a tram station.
Vienna’s professional rescue service provided both prisoners with emergency medical care and took them to hospital. The 26-year-old was treated in the hospital’s trauma room, but died from his injuries a few hours later.
Owner had left the car earlier
Investigation shows that the owner of the license plate was also in the car before the accident. However, he had recently left the car at a red light because his friend was driving recklessly and at too high a speed.
The 26-year-old was driving without a driver’s license. He also had 1.2 per mille of alcohol in his blood.
