The white boxing shorts that Muhammed Ali wore during his legendary boxing match ‘Thrilla in Manila’ in 1975 are currently being auctioned in New York. Since the end of March, auction house Sotheby’s has been accepting bids for the shorts personally signed by the American boxing legend. The highest bid on Friday was 3.8 million dollars (about 3.5 million euros). The auction runs until April 12.
However, the minimum price that the seller asks for the shorts has not yet been reached. Sotheby’s estimates that the boxing trunks could fetch as much as $6 million.
Other items of clothing belonging to prominent athletes are currently being auctioned at Sotheby’s, including several jerseys belonging to NBA star Victor Wembanyama.
In November, a jersey the Frenchman wore in his very first NBA game fetched $762,000, almost ten times its estimated value.
