Guests stay away – Alpine Farer rages: “Parking costs more expensive than my food”

Date:

The Gleirschalm, a popular destination especially for families and retirees in the Tyrolean Sellrain Valley (Innsbruck-land district), is being affected by the venue’s terrible new parking charges. The guests and landlady Gitti Unterlechner are furious.

The “Krone” contribution about the dramatic price increase of the parking spaces for tourers and day trippers in St. Sigmund in the Sellrain spoke from the soul. Gitti Unterlechner, the Gleirschalm’s landlady, is also stunned by the fantastic increase from five to record-breaking eight euros.

No spread rates
What is outraged by Unterlechner: unlike the most similar places in Tyrol, there is no staggered rate – for example, for several hours or only half a day.

The price increase demanded by Lois Melmer, the owner of the parking lot in Praxmar, which the municipality eventually implemented on all four operated by it, hits the Gleirschalm (1518 m) particularly hard. No wonder: the walking time is only about 45 minutes to the destination, especially for families and retirees.

Many don’t want to afford horrible parking fees
A toboggan section including stopping takes hardly more than three hours. And for this, eight euros only need to be “spent” for parking. Many don’t want it or can’t afford it.

The locals outweighed the guests
“The majority of our guests are locals. Some no longer come to eat every week, but only every 14 days,” says Gitti Unterlechner. “Parking is more expensive than a meal for you” – she continues to hear such and similar statements. And whether guests receive a free drink where parking is already so expensive.

The landlady doesn’t want to be ashamed
“Then I must always clarify that we have not increased the parking fee or have any benefit from it,” says Unterlechner. Nache: “I don’t want to be ashamed of myself!”

Hoping for a four hour ticket
In the meantime, the owner of the Gleirschalm has also taken the initiative and sent a letter to Anton Schiffmann, the mayor of St. Sigmund. “A four-hour ticket would be a solution,” says Landlady Unterlechner in front of a control from the person responsible.
