Terrier mix dog “Mishka” demonstrated her will to survive and perseverance. The animal was reported missing by its owners in the US state of California in July 2023. 2,300 miles from home, she reappeared near Detroit.
To the delight of her owners in the US state of California, the small, missing dog has unexpectedly turned up thousands of miles from her home.
Neighbors reported stray animals
“Mishka” was picked up by police near the city of Detroit, Michigan, and taken to an animal shelter – more than 2,300 miles (3,770 kilometers) away from her home in San Diego, Southern California.
A resident had previously reported the stray dog near Harper Woods, Michigan. The animal shelter checked whether “Mishka” was chipped – it was!
Researched thanks to chip owner
Thanks to the chip, the owners of “Mishka” could be informed. According to GPAAS, the family was on vacation in the Midwestern city of Minneapolis at the time and was therefore able to pick up their missing pet in person at the animal shelter.
Although the trip from Minneapolis is much shorter than the trip from San Diego, the trip still took ten hours. A lot of time on the road, which the owners of “Mishka” happily accepted.
Photos (above) and videos shared by animal welfare organization Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) show a small, shaggy dog with white fur happily wagging her tail as she is reunited with her owners.
“This is a story Hollywood would love to tell,” GPAAS wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday. How the dog was able to get this far is and remains her secret…
