Serious recreational accident at the Zuckerhütl in the Tyrolean Stubai Valley on Saturday! During one fall, a mountain climber took five other alpinists with him. After 50 meters the people calmed down. The result: a duo from Italy had to be rescued with two helicopters. Three locals were lucky.
The accident happened around 11 a.m. At that time, several mountaineers were in the Zuckerhütl summit area. “About 50 meters below the summit, a previously unknown mountaineer suddenly began to slip in the snow-covered gully, some of which was steep up to 50 degrees, and fell,” police said. As a result, three local and two Italian mountaineers were wiped out.
Four helicopters in use
The five people came to rest about 50 meters below the crash site. The two Italians – a man and a woman, each aged 27 – suffered serious injuries. They had to be flown by emergency medical helicopter to hospitals in Hall and Meran. The three local alpinists were only slightly injured and continued their journey. Three emergency medical helicopters and one police helicopter were deployed.
To this day, there is no trace of the unknown person who dragged the other people away. He must have run away.
