He came, saw and…conquered again! After winning the gold medal in his World Championship debut last year, Elias Erber has now also been crowned European MMA champion. The second exclamation point from Salzburg is also one for the local amateur association, which is fighting for admission to Sport Austria. In the meantime, the next top fighting events await Krone+ subscribers.
As soon as he arrived in the “adult class”, he apparently could no longer ignore Elias Erber! Last November, the 21-year-old from Salzburg won the world amateur title in Albania – and now he also achieved victory at the strong European Championship in Serbia.
Fighters from Ireland, Ukraine and Poland could not prevent Erber’s participation in the featherweight final. At the end there was Frenchman Ugo-Antton Vidal, who himself had made a dominant run towards the battle for gold.
No prisoners in the final
However, the Austrian hopefuls took no prisoners. He took his opponent to the ground in the second round, landing hard punches – and ultimately winning by technical knockout! “No Time”, as our cage warrior calls himself, also delivered the “Performance of the Day”.
Erber’s second coup in a row at a major international event organized by the world amateur association IMMAF, which supports the UFC Elite League, also brings pure joy to the domestic association AUTMMAF. “Excellent performance,” praises technical director Gerhard Ettl.
Another powerful argument
The Austrian MMA pioneer not only fights to promote young talents who, among other things, enter the Octagon in “his” Cage Fight Series; KronePLUS subscribers also see Erber regularly here. Instead, there is now also a battle to incorporate the amateur MMA division into Sport Austria (formerly the Federal Sports Organization/BSO).
The decision makers there not only look at legal aspects, association and club structures, but also at trainer and fighter training. But also whether there are participants in the European Championships and World Championships, whether there are chances of winning medals or whether they have already been won. In any case, with Erber you still have a powerful argument for being officially recognized alongside martial arts such as boxing, karate or judo.
