Crying for help – Brave neighbor protects victim (18) from tormentors

Date:

“It’s my duty to help!” Courage was shown by a resident of a residential area in Oberwart (Burgenland), who rushed into the street to help a desperate 18-year-old who had been held in an apartment and had managed to escape rape. The resident stood protectively in front of the victim.

Last weekend’s scenes in the Roma settlement in Oberwart are terrible memories. As reported, a young woman rushed out of a house into the street at lunchtime and desperately shouted for help: “Help, help!”

Hours of torment
A resident who was cooking on the stove at home heard the screams and ran to her. “She was crying bitterly and shaking all over,” the witness said. The 18-year-old from Kosovo, the victim, tearfully described how she was held by a compatriot in the apartment of a Burgenlander.

The 45-year-old hit her and threatened her with a gun. He tried to force her to have sex. The suspect is said to have been under the influence of cocaine together with a partner (23).

Responds confidently
The 18-year-old managed to escape after hours. Without hesitation, she protected the resident from further attacks. The neighbor helped the Kosovar woman out of conviction: ‘It is my duty!’ The resident just ran to her stove, put the cooking pot with the food aside and immediately returned to the 18-year-old.

Showed strong nerves
‘I can’t leave the poor woman alone. What if the men come out of the house and go after her?’ The neighbor did not leave the Kosovar woman’s side when the alleged perpetrator and his friend suddenly appeared.

The two men quickly disappeared towards the Roma monument and were arrested shortly afterwards! The suspect is in custody in Eisenstadt. During the search, the Diana R-22 rifle, including the attached magazine, and 120 rounds of ammunition were seized.

Conversation at the town hall
The frightening incident overshadowed the day of remembrance, which was dedicated to the Roma and Sinti ethnic group. On Monday morning, the courageous helper and a companion visited Mayor Georg Rosner as spokesperson for the settlement.

Lawyer investigates the case
To the annoyance of residents, strangers have repeatedly appeared in the residential area since October last year, seriously disrupting the peaceful atmosphere. “We take the concerns of citizens very seriously. In consultation with the police and our lawyer, we are now investigating whether there are any violations of the Housing Act. Structural inspections are also being considered,” says Rosner.
