Underground cable damaged – no cell phone, no internet: massive network outage

Date:

An underground telecommunications cable was severely damaged during excavation work in Pfunds (Tyrol) on Tuesday. Several communities are feeling the consequences.

On Tuesday, a landline (A1) was seriously damaged during excavation work in the municipality of Pfunds. This led to an A1 network outage at Pfunds and a total outage of the A1/Magenta network at Nauders and Spiss. The outage affects both fixed and mobile networks.

Euro emergency call only possible to a limited extent
Due to a partial network overlap between the Italian and Swiss radio networks, the Euro emergency number “112” operates to a limited extent. If the emergency organizations cannot be reached by telephone, go to the local police station or fire station as an emergency. These are staffed in the respective communities.

The power outage is expected to continue
The population was informed about the situation accordingly. The blue light organizations can be reached wirelessly. The number of police forces in the affected areas has been expanded. The power outage is expected to last until Wednesday afternoon.
