Already third attempt – Trump fails again due to delay in the process

Date:

Former US President Donald Trump has suffered another setback in court. An appeals court in New York on Wednesday rejected another request from Trump to postpone his April 15 criminal trial over hush money payments to a porn actress. Trump’s third attempt this week failed.

The criminal proceedings against Trump over a hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels are taking place in the middle of the election campaign. The jury will almost certainly decide the guilt or innocence of the Republican and presidential candidate before the elections in early November. The 77-year-old denied any guilt during the trial, as in all his legal proceedings.

American voters view the matter as serious
According to a survey, a majority of American voters are critical of Trump in the hush money lawsuit. This is according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Wednesday, ahead of the start of the trial on Monday. Accordingly, 64 percent of those surveyed described the allegations as at least “moderately serious.” However, for 34 percent it is not serious.

One in four Republicans do not want to vote for Trump if he is convicted
About four-in-ten Republican respondents also believed the allegations were serious, as did two-thirds of independents. About a quarter of Republicans said they would not vote for Trump in November if he were convicted by a jury.

Trump speaks of politically motivated accusations
This means that Trump will also face political problems if he is found guilty: a close result is expected in the match against incumbent Joe Biden in the November elections. The trial, which starts Monday in New York, is the first of four criminal cases against Trump. According to legal experts, the other three cases are actually more serious than the alleged hush money payments: Trump is accused of involvement in election fraud and unlawful handling of confidential documents. However, these processes have been postponed. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all four cases, arguing they were politically motivated.

Trum’s lawyer paid porn actress
The indictment against Trump in the hush money trial was brought by a grand jury. They accused the now 77-year-old of falsifying business documents in connection with a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. His lawyer paid her $130,000 for her silence about a sexual encounter with Trump. According to her report, this would have taken place in 2006. Trump has denied having a sexual encounter with the woman. However, he admitted that he had reimbursed the lawyer for his payment to her.
