A very unusual sight recently occurred on the shores of San Francisco Bay in California. A two-story houseboat sailed through the bay of the Pacific Ocean. The owners had to move for legal reasons…
Footage (see video above) shows the floating clapboard wooden house being towed through the open sea to its new destination, the city of San Rafael, on Tuesday. The residents had to leave the Docktown Marina in nearby Redford City. The marina once housed more than a hundred houseboats.
According to local media reports, the Redwood City Council has asked residents of houseboats at the marina to leave because their boats would block public access to a state waterway. As part of an ongoing lawsuit, the city has paid boathouse residents millions of dollars to persuade them to move.
The Coast Guard oversaw the transfer
According to SFGate, a San Francisco news website, the houseboat was the second-to-last floating home in the Redwood City Marina. The U.S. Coast Guard oversaw the transfer of the boathouse, which was towed by a smaller tugboat as it glided through the waters of the bay.
