Shipwrecked people rescued from a small island in the Pacific Ocean

Date:

The US Coast Guard has rescued three shipwrecked sailors stranded on a desert island in the Pacific Ocean. The men, aged around forty, went fishing in a boat on Easter Sunday, but did not return. Family members reported her missing. Now a palm leaf put the searchers on the right track.

The US Coast Guard began its search and eventually discovered palm fronds on the beach of Pikelot Island, part of Micronesia. So the men had spelled the word “Help” (German: Hilfe).

Saved thanks to ingenuity
The US Coast Guard called it a “remarkable testament to their will to be found.” The ingenuity was crucial for rescuers to find the shipwrecked people and rescue them on Tuesday (local time).

Rescuer related to castaway
The helpers had previously dropped a radio above the island to communicate with the men. The American broadcaster CNN reported a surprise during the rescue: one of the rescuers turned out to be a distant relative of the shipwrecked people.

The tiny island of Pikelot made headlines around the world almost four years ago. Thanks to a huge SOS call for help painted in the sand, three missing sailors were found.
