Date:

Earlier, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with the two sides.

On the 34th day since the start of the war in UkraineRussian and Ukrainian delegations will meet in Turkey on Tuesday to negotiate a ceasefire and peace, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed yesterday.

Erdogan also announced that he will meet with both the Ukrainian and Russian delegations before the meeting.

“The Russian and Ukrainian delegations will meet in Istanbul tomorrow to negotiate a ceasefire and peace. Before negotiations begin, we will meet briefly with the delegations,” Erdogan said during a live broadcast on NTV.

The meeting starts at 07:30 GMT (8:30 a.m. in the Basque Country) in the presidential work offices attached to the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul and will also continue on Wednesday, but closed to the press according to the Turkish presidency.

Erdogan added that he remains in contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to promote mediation, stressing that Turkey has been making efforts in this regard since 2014.

Ankara never recognized Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 territorial integrity of Ukraine and sells weapons to Kiev, but at the same time, Erdogan maintains good relations with Putin and bought an anti-missile defense system from Moscow

Meanwhile, Ukraine has given up on opening humanitarian corridors on the ground due to “possible provocations” on the Russian side, said Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, Irina Vereschuk.

In the hours leading up to that meeting, the Ukrainian president said, Volodomir Zelenskicoffered an interview with independent Russian media (jellyfish Kommersant and Novaya Gazeta) in which he assured that Ukraine would be willing to adopt a neutral global status in order to reach a peace agreement with Russia.
