There’s a new fashion trend happening in football: dressing as pink as Barbie’s wardrobe. But not all fans like that. On the contrary: violent protests suggest that some see true masculinity in danger. Just why?
The German national football team really had a hard time: at their game premiere in the new European Championship jerseys, which varied in color from bright pink to deep purple, they defeated the Netherlands 2-1. There was a huge sigh of relief, not only because of the successful performance on the field, but also because of the poisonous whispers that had spread beforehand: Kickers in Barbie colors? Doesn’t this at least threaten the demise of masculinity?
The reactions were even more violent at the traditional Upper Austrian club LASK, which already caused another escalation with its pink outfits.
