Nose not running – hardly any pollen pollution at the Vienna city marathon

Date:

The Vienna City Marathon will take place on April 20 and 21. Allergy sufferers can look forward to a low pollen load. The warm weather has caused some major allergens to bloom very early and are already past full bloom.

The birch, normally the main allergen in April, has already completed its main flowering period at the beginning of April due to the partly summer weather conditions.

Only with wind currents from the west or north is there a risk of birch pollen being transported over long distances.

Harbinger of the grass pollen season
The summer weather has promoted the development of the grasses, so that the first flowering specimens and harbingers of the grass pollen season are already present. However, the pollen content of the grasses can still be assessed as low at the time of the run.

The runners find almost ideal conditions in terms of pollen counts. However, sunglasses or hats can also reduce contact with pollen.
